Museum Vleeshuis

The Sound of the City

Six hundred years of music and dance in the city

In the heart of the city

The Vleeshuis Museum is located in the heart of the city, right in the Historic Center of Antwerp. Surrounded by plenty of attractions, a visit to the museum will undoubtedly make for an interesting day trip.

A listed building

The history of the Vleeshuis goes back five hundred years – well into the Middle Ages. Until after the French Revolution the Antwerp meat cutters, the oldest trade in the city, used it as their base. As well as using the building as a guildhall, they also used the listed building as a location to sell their meat.

Exhibition

Museum Vleeshuis displays musical instruments, craftsmanship and traditions from 800 years of musical life in Antwerp and Flanders. The museum collection comes to life in concerts, tours and workshops, in the monument and beyond.
