Wannes Van de Velde's writing den

Google Arts & Culture

With his unique songs, Wannes Van de Velde (1937-2008) was the voice and conscience of the city of Antwerp and its inhabitants. Starting in 1978, Wannes mainly wrote his music and song lyrics in his study - his 'writing den' as he called it - in his home at 34 Antoon Van Dijckstraat, near the Antwerp Municipal Park.

At home with Wannes

Wannes Van de Velde's study was given a new home at Museum Vleeshuis in 2019.

In addition to musical instruments, items on display include books, 'Poesje' dolls, photographs, drawings and paintings. Of course, there are also various musical scores and song lyrics in his handwriting among them. Altogether, there are nearly 1,500 objects that inspired Wannes or bear witness to his creative process.

In this tour

You will get to know the creative Wannes Van de Velde and some of the objects you can find in his 'writing den'.
