Carillon Concerts

Sound in the city? That must be the carillon!

Our city carillonneurs Koen Van Assche and Liesbeth Janssens play the carillon throughout the year. In this way, they keep the tradition alive. On special occasions, such as solemn receptions and commemorations, the city council sometimes asks them to perform fitting music. In July and August, the city carillonneurs give a diverse series of concerts, with guest carillonneurs from home and abroad.

When? 

  • Afternoon performances: every Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon from noon to 1 p.m. 
  • Summer evening concerts: every Monday evening at 8 p.m. in July and August. The programme for these concerts will be announced in June. Our city carillonneurs often invite guest musicians to come and perform at these concerts.

Onbekend beiaardwerk van Emile Wambach ontdekt

Jan Dewilde, bibliothecaris van het Conservatorium van Antwerpen, ontdekte eind 2024 per toeval een onbekend beiaardwerk geschreven door de Belgisch dirigent, componist en muziekpedagoog Emile Wambach (1854-1924). Stadsbeiaardier Koen Van Assche nam de compositie onlangs op in de Antwerpse beiaard. Je kan deze unieke opname hier beluisteren.
